On this sacred occasion, the Niwala Foundation humbly pays tribute to Guru Arjan Dev Ji Maharaj, the fifth Sikh Guru, whose life exemplified selfless service, resilience, and compassion for humanity.

The Life of Guru Arjan Dev Ji Maharaj

Holi is not just about playing with colors; it’s about spreading love, happiness, and compassion. As we drench ourselves in colors, let’s also remember those who may not have the privilege to celebrate. This festival gives us the perfect opportunity to share our blessings with the less fortunate, making sure no one is left behind in the festivities.

Bringing Hope Through Food and Kindness

Born in 1563, Guru Arjan Dev Ji was the youngest son of Guru Ram Das Ji. He became the fifth Guru of the Sikh faith and made monumental contributions to the spiritual and social fabric of Sikhism. Guru Ji compiled the Adi Granth, the holy scripture that later became the Guru Granth Sahib, giving the Sikh community a spiritual anchor rooted in peace, unity, and love.
He was also the founder of Sri Harmandir Sahib (The Golden Temple), designed with four doors to signify that all people—regardless of caste, creed, or religion—are welcome. This was a radical step toward equality and inclusion at a time when social divisions ran deep.

A Martyr for Humanity

Guru Arjan Dev Ji Maharaj was the first Sikh martyr, who gave his life standing firmly by the principles of justice and truth. He was arrested and tortured on the orders of the Mughal Emperor Jahangir, refusing to abandon his beliefs or convert under duress. His sacrifice is remembered not with sorrow, but with reverence and inspiration.
His final words, “Tera Kiya Meetha Lage” (“Sweet is Thy Will, O Lord”), remain a guiding light for millions—teaching us acceptance, devotion, and inner peace even in the face of suffering.

Chabeel – A Sweet Gesture of Remembrance

In loving memory of Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s supreme sacrifice, Sikhs around the world organize Chabeel—a peaceful service of distributing sweetened rose water (or flavored milk) to the public during the scorching summer heat.
This symbolic act reflects Guru Ji’s resilience and compassion, turning a painful memory into an opportunity to spread kindness, relief, and community spirit.
At Niwala Foundation, we proudly organize Chabeel every year, serving chilled drinks to passersby, laborers, and the underprivileged to keep them hydrated and cared for during the summer months. Through this, we aim to keep Guru Ji’s message of love and service alive in every cup we serve. Let every drop of Chabeel remind us of our responsibility to serve others selflessly, especially those suffering in silence.

A Source of Inspiration for Niwala Foundation

At Niwala Foundation, our mission is rooted in the same values that Guru Arjan Dev Ji stood for—serving the needy without discrimination, promoting equality, and preserving human dignity. His life encourages us to continue feeding the hungry, helping the helpless, and doing seva (selfless service) without expecting anything in return.
As we commemorate Guru Ji’s martyrdom, let us renew our commitment to bringing hope to those in need, just as he brought light into the lives of the oppressed and the downtrodden.

🙏 In His Memory, Let Us Serve

On this pious day, we urge everyone to participate in acts of kindness—offer food to someone hungry, lend a hand to someone in distress, or simply spread love and understanding. True tribute to Guru Arjan Dev Ji lies in living his teachings.

“He alone is a true disciple, who walks in the way of Guru’s will, and lives a life of service.”
— Guru Arjan Dev Ji
